Busting myths about the cost of hiring a mobile bar

If you are a regular reader of the Neptune Bar Hire Co. blog, you will know that we are all about the customer. We eat, sleep and breathe customer service and when it comes to mobile bar and marquee hire, our MD Mat is obsessed with providing the very best, quality service for your events. 

Recently Mat had a conversation with another mobile bar operator and was shocked when they revealed that they levy all sorts of charges to customers. This got us thinking about what we charge for weddings and corporate events and the service that we provide - we felt it was time to clear a few things up.

It does not cost a fortune to hire a mobile bar. It is a myth that hiring a mobile bar will cost both an arm and a leg. Other mobile bar operators might charge you an astronomical booking fee, plus a hefty deposit, plus specifying a minimum bar spend … and so on. 

At Neptune Bars, we believe that if you have invested your time and effort to choose and trust us as your supplier, you deserve to receive a five star service. That is why:

  • We do NOT charge a deposit. If a mobile bar operator tells you that ‘everyone’ in the industry charges for this, they’re lying. We make the effort to get to know you from the very first time you contact us, so that we know exactly what you want and to build up a relationship. We therefore neither need, nor want, to take a massive deposit from you.
  • We DO charge a minimal booking fee. Again, if you’re trusting us to be your supplier of choice, we don’t feel the need to take an excessive booking fee from you. Our usual fee is between £25-£50, depending on the type of bar being hired. You will always know upfront what the charge will be.
  • We NEVER stipulate a minimum spend for a bar. Mat is a responsible, licensed mobile bar operator and would never put Neptune Bars customers under pressure to feel as though they have to drink a certain amount to avoid incurring any more fees. We believe this is a shockingly irresponsible and sharp practice which equates to profit over customer needs.
  • You DON'T have to have a cash bar. We have no idea where this came from, but we have heard stories where people have been told that they can only have a cash bar with no card payments taken, or just have pre-purchased tokens. With Neptune Bars, you can have whatever you like! If you want to let your guests pay by card or cash, that’s fine. If you want to put money behind the bar, or use a mix of cash and tokens, that’s good too. It is YOUR event and we will bend over backwards to accommodate your requirements, so that it goes without a hitch.
The only other thing that we will charge extra for is substantial breakages of glassware, BUT we will discuss potential costs well in advance so that there are no surprises for you on the night. We even provide garnishes, ice, etc., as part of the deal. 

It is not a difficult process to hire a mobile bar. You call or email us; we meet (in person or by video conference call); you pay the minimal booking fee; we keep in touch regularly before the event; the event takes place; you have a great night; and we tidy up afterwards. That’s it. There are no complicated contracts or processes – we even apply for a TENS (temporary event) licence with your local council, which is covered by the booking fee.
